You would be surprised how many people love to bird watch and help  care for the many types of birds that fly in and out of their yards. With a winter bird bath, you never have to wait until  spring like you used to. You can even watch while it’s snowing, all from the comfort of your home.

There are many different types, including electrical powered ones, solar powered bird baths, ones that stand on a pedestal,  sit on the ground, as well as mount to your deck. If you look at all of the available types, you will be sure to find the perfect fit for your home. There are ones that are rated to keep the water from freezing as low as -20 degrees! So depending on where you live at, you should be able to enjoy watching the birds use your heated bath all year long.

The powered ones are run off of an extension cord in the winter and in the warmer months, you just unplug it and use it without the heater. One of the things that surprise a lot of people is that birds are not the only ones that enjoy a heated bird bath. It is common to see squirrels, chipmunks, and even raccoons enjoying themselves with a bath. So if you enjoy the outdoors and love to watch all different types of animals and birds, you should consider getting a heated type of bird bath for yourself or as a gift.

Some of the common materials used to make bird baths whether heated or unheated are:
- Copper
- Resin
- Sand Coated Plastic
- Plastic

If you decide to go with an electrically powered type, there are many different sizes and wattages to choose from. Of course the size of the heating element that you need will depend on how cold it gets in your area. The majority of them will keep the water between 40 and 50 degrees Fahrenheit in the cold winter months.

The designs of the bath as well as the rim are usually made so it is easy for a bird to land. They usually will have a slope to them to encourage the birds to bath in it. There are many different things that you can buy to attract birds to spend time in your neck of the woods, even if that is in the city! A heated bird bath is one that you may not have thought of before.

Some other things to consider as a bird lover.

There are many other items that you can get, as a bird lover, for your home or yard. One of the things if you have an indoor bird as a pet, is a heated bird perch. This is a perch that you put in to the bird’s cage that provides a warm and stable place for the bird all year long. Air conditioning and cold drafts can effect certain types of birds and this can be the answer.

If you do get a bird bath or already have one, you should be aware of the proper way for bird bath cleaning. Some people have problems with algae growing in their bath and depending on who you ask about this, there are many different opinions. Some recommend an algae inhibitor, some say clean it with a bleach solution and rinse it really well, some even suggest throwing a penny in the water. If you decide to use a bleach solution, make sure that you rinse this out completely, before adding water again. You can buy bird bath cleaners at some home improvement stores also.

There are several accessories that you can buy for your bird bath also, like a mister or dripper. These will bring running water to your bath, which will attract more birds and keep them there longer. These can sometimes even attract birds that are flying overhead that normally wouldn’t notice the bird bath.

You’ve got to check out these little ones! Too Cute!
